Principal Accountant

London Borough of Bromley; £65,000

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent (36 hours per week)

This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-moving finance team at the London Borough of Bromley. If you’re looking to make an impact in your next role and work strategically with both the Chief Accountant and Director of Finance, then this could be a great move.

As part of a small team you will be responsible for all aspects of financial services relating to capital expenditure and financing, treasury management activities and pension fund accounting. You will also deputise for the chief accountant in their absence which will provide significant exposure to strategic responsibilities across the council.

As part of your capital accounting responsibilities you will lead on the production and monitoring of the council’s capital programme including advising on medium and long-term planning as well as the production of capital monitoring reports and presenting these to relevant committees.

The team have been through a successful period recently having won the LAPF award for best performing pension fund in 2017 and 2018 and have very recently won the Public Finance Innovation Award 2019 for pensions, treasury and asset management. It’s an exciting time to join a successful but ever-changing finance team with lots of work to do.

Ideally you will be a qualified accountant with a proven background in Local Government Finance and strong knowledge of capital accounting, closedown of accounts and statutory reporting. You will also have strong communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with Councillors and management across the authority.
