About this event

The education landscape has changed significantly in the last few years. This includes the funding formula, accountability and governance frameworks and the increased autonomy given to academies and free schools. The role of the local authority in being a commissioner not a provider can be clearly seen in this new dynamic.

The day will set out the historical and current context of education funding and also examine the challenges and opportunities of the current landscape. Attendees will be able to:

  • raise their awareness of funding formulas, governance regulations and financial challenges facing the sector
  • understand the link between finance and school structures
  • appreciate the regulation around academies and free schools
  • increase their awareness of how to support and challenge schools around finance and the governments efficiency agenda
  • have the opportunity to network and work together in small groups to discuss pertinent issues and share local authority experiences.

Who should attend?

Local authority officers new to the education finance sector. This is not suitable for those already familiar with the education finance sector.
