Introduction to Education Finance


Event summary

A one day workshop for those new to the education finance sector. The day will set out the historical and current context of education funding and also examine the challenges and opportunities of the current landscape.

Attendees will be able to:

  • raise their awareness of funding formulas, governance regulations and financial challenges facing the sector
  • understand the link between curriculum options and the resultant financial implications
  • appreciate the regulation around academies and free schools
  • increase their awareness of how to support and challenge schools around finance and the governments efficiency agenda
  • have the opportunity to network and work together in small groups to discuss pertinent issues and share local authority experiences.

Speaker - Lisa Forster, Principal Consultant

Lisa Forster

Lisa is a CIPFA qualified accountant, and has worked for CIPFA since 2008. She joined the organisation as a finance advisor in CIPFA Networks, and has more recently moved across to the advisory team. Lisa’s two areas of expertise are in education finance, particularly academy accounts and assurance, and also in local government ‘transformation’ around the consideration of ‘alternative service delivery models’.
