About this event

Invest to save and regeneration are major factor in local authority budgets and capital plans for the medium term financial strategies. Austerity is alive and kicking, funding and demand led services are at the forefront of council priorities, and it’s for these reasons that investing for the future is a key tool in delivering corporate ambitions and maintaining core services.

Who should attend?

This event is aimed at treasury practitioners and all those involved in managing the treasury management investment strategy within your organisation.

How will I benefit?

  • an update from CIPFA Property on the role of commercial property with an authorities investment portfolio and how this fits with regeneration

Speaker - Neil Sellstrom

Neil Sellstrom

Neil has been a CIPFA Advisor for pensions and treasury management since 2009, running networks on both subjects with over 150 subscribing authorities combined. He represents CIPFA and Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) Funds at various key events and also attends CIPFA pensions panels. He also organises workshops and conferences, produces newsletters, and co-ordinates queries to support members and promote best practice. E: neil.sellstrom@cipfa.org, T: 01287 619679.

Speaker - Roy Nolan

Roy is a fellow of CIPFA whose career has straddled the public and private sectors. Roy joined RP Martin in 2015 having spent 20 years in the public sector in a variety of senior roles, his last being Deputy s151 of a London Borough helping them deliver in excess of £100m of corporate savings and to win numerous LGPS investment awards. As CIPFA’s educational development manager in the late 1990’s he managed the redevelopment of the Professional Accountancy Qualification. After leaving CIPFA, Roy worked as an independent consultant, specialising in pension and treasury management. During this time he co-authored an MSc in Public Sector Treasury Management with Nottingham Trent University. Following the Icelandic banking crisis, Roy was appointed chair of CIPFA’s Treasury Management Network and helped establish CIPFA’s Pensions Network.

Roy holds degree in Criminology from the University of Westminster.

Speaker - Chris Brain, Property Training & Standards Manager, CIPFA Property

Chris Brain

Chris Brain is an FRICS qualified surveyor and the Property Training & Standards Manager within the CIPFA group. Chris delivers the CIPFA’s Strategic Assets Network, Property Training Network and Highway Asset Management Network, as well as advising on asset management and asset valuation issues throughout the UK and undertaking a range of related consultancy.
