CIPFA is the global professional body for public finance professionals.

Who can join?

Minimum requirements 

The minimum academic entry requirements to study our Professional Qualification are three GCSEs, grades A–C (or grades 4 and up), and two A-Levels, grades A–C or equivalent. 

If you do not meet these requirements you may still be eligible.


All graduates can study for our Professional Qualifications in Accounting and Audit. 

A relevant finance or accountancy degree may give you exemptions from some CIPFA papers.

Fully qualified accountants

Members of other professional accountancy bodies are be entitled to exemptions to become fully-qualified Chartered Public Finance Accountants (CPFA).

The amount of exemptions will depend on the standing of your qualification and your relevant professional experience in the public sector.
