NHS Professional Accountancy Apprenticeship Pathway

The recommended training route for health finance professionals at every stage of their career

A collaboration between CIPFA and AAT, this pathway deliver a seamless apprenticeship programme for existing and aspiring finance professionals working across the NHS.

Combining our joint expertise, CIPFA and AAT provide a complete integrated journey, for those just starting out in accountancy through to those aspiring to be a fully qualified chartered accountant. The NHS accountancy apprenticeship pathway offers three entry points:

Apprentices can join the programme at any of the three entry points depending on their levels of work experience, educational background and career aspirations.

Each apprenticeship can be tailored to individual members of your finance team, with a programme that builds on job role, work experience, skills and career aspiration. This flexible approach will support you in developing the essential skills needed within your accounting and finance functions to support the delivery of high-quality care across the health and social care services.

Applicable to the full range of NHS accountancy, audit and finance roles, and for individuals at every career stage, we can work with you to map each prospective apprentice to an individually-tailored apprenticeship training programme

NHS employers in England can fund the training costs of their apprentices through their apprenticeship levy accounts. CIPFA's NHS apprenticeships team will guide you throughout the process, from advising on utilising your levy fund, to signing up your apprentices onto the programme.
