Brexit White Paper published

On 12 July 2018, the government published The Future Relationship between the United Kingdom and the European Union. The Brexit White Paper outlines the government’s detailed proposal for delivering a “principled and practical Brexit” and explains how the relationship between the UK and the EU would work after the UK leaves the EU on 29 March 2019.

According to the prime minister:

Our proposal is comprehensive. It is ambitious. And it strikes the balance we need – between rights and obligations … In short, the proposal set out in this White Paper would honour the result of the referendum.

The package presented in the White Paper proposes to end free movement, preserve frictionless trade at the border for goods, and avoid a hard border between Northern Ireland and Ireland.
