CIPFA Comment: ADASS's Spring Survey

21-06-2023

In response to ADASS’s Spring Survey, which was published today, CIPFA’s Social Care Policy Advisor, William Burns, said:

“ADASS’s (Association of Directors of Adult Social Services) Spring Survey makes it clear that there is still a long way to go when it comes to sustainable funding for social care.

“More than three-quarters of directors are concerned that their budgets are insufficient to meet all of their legal duties for adult social care in 2023/24, and 72% of councils are having to rely on their reserves to fund pressures. This position is clearly unsustainable.

“What we need is a fully-funded, long-term plan to make the social care sector resilient in the face of increasing pressure. Certainty of funding would enable local authorities to better plan for care and improve outcomes for everyone who draws on care and support.”
