CIPFA briefing: pre-local government settlement briefing

CIPFA has produced a pre-local government settlement briefing document. In the briefing note CIPFA, as the professional body representing those working in public finance, addresses significant concerns about the uncertainty now facing local authorities as a consequence of increasingly stretched resources and rising uncertainty about future funding.

Mounting pressures on services, combined with ongoing cuts, are pushing those who manage the public purse to make difficult choices to balance their budgets. Through CIPFA’s Local Authority Half-Year Outturn Survey and feedback from local authority treasurers, CIPFA has drawn together a stark picture of the fiscal cliff that authorities are facing and the increasing financial risks they must tackle in the medium to long-term.
