CIPFA Response: £1.6bn additional COVID-19 funding for councils

20-04-2020

Commenting on additional £1.6bn in funding for councils to help them through the coronavirus pandemic, Rob Whiteman, CIPFA CEO, said:

“Councils will welcome these additional resources, which reflect escalating costs during this crisis.

“At the same time councils are seeing reduced income as households find bills, including council tax bills, harder to pay, while income from fees and charges for services such as leisure and planning has also taken a hit.

“Today’s welcome news is a step in the right direction but more will be needed to ensure councils can maintain services in areas such as adult social care, homelessness and for other vulnerable groups.”
