CIPFA response to the Queen's Speech

11-05-2021

CIPFA CEO Rob Whiteman said: "While we expect the Queen’s Speech to be high level, we also expect it to give us a clear vision of the government's strategy. Today there was a troubling lack of focus, which, combined with a challenging financial position, will make implementation difficult.

"No specific proposals were brought forward for local government, but simplifying the procurement process, modernising planning and investment in green industries as proposed will likely have a significant impact on local authorities and the services they provide.

"The promise of additional funding for the NHS and social care for preventative care and investment in new technologies is welcome, however policy ambition must be underwritten with adequate funding. We look forward to seeing details on how these proposals will be realised in the immediate future."
