Public Finance Live Northern Ireland will return in October 2023. Further details will be announced soon.
18 October, Stormont Hotel, Belfast
CIPFA’s Public Finance Live 2022 was CIPFA’s first face-to-face conference in Northern Ireland since 2019. The theme of this event was ‘the future of public sector finance’ and was set against a backdrop of continued political uncertainty both at Stormont and at Westminster.
The programme for the event provided insight and advice from experts across a range of sessions covering sustainability in the public sector, the future of the finance workforce, addressing inequalities and the future of place-based cross-sector working in the public sector.
The event was chaired by William Crawley and the CIPFA Northern Ireland Branch was delighted to welcome CIPFA’s President, Jayne Owen, to address the delegates. Speakers at the conference included Paul Gosling, writer and broadcaster, Colum Boyle, Permanent Secretary at the Department for Communities and Dorinnia Carville the recently appointed Comptroller and Auditor General for Northern Ireland. For the final session of the conference, delegates welcomed Robin Swann, Minister of Health for Northern Ireland to reflect on the challenges faced by the health sector and the lessons learned from steering the department through a period of a national public health emergency.
Delegates had the opportunity to network and attend a range of workshops during the day covering maintaining good governance, the role of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and tackling fraud and corruption in public services. Being the first face-to-face event since 2019, delegates had a further opportunity to catch up with colleagues and share experiences through an end-of-conference drinks reception and networking event.
