Drawing on CIPFA’s guidance 'The excellent internal auditor: A good practice guide to Skills and Competences', this programme will provide guidance for new and existing internal auditors/ senior auditors.

It will offer attendees the opportunity to complete the skills matrix in line with this guidance to identify further areas of development which will be covered within day two.

This course will be full of discussions about real issues and risks.

The workshop takes place over two mornings. We ask that you attend and book on to both workshops:

About this event

Who should attend?

This course would be good for anyone who is looking to reconcile their internal audit skillset. It would suit Auditors starting out in their careers, as well as anyone who is looking to retrain within an IA role.

You will spend time with other like minded colleagues learning some about the skill that you need to feel more confident and capable within your internal audit role.

Speaker - Naomi Whitmore

Naomi is a CIPFA-qualified accountant. She joined CIPFA in 2023 after spending 18 years working in the public sector in both finance and auditing roles. She has worked in both in-house audit teams as well as public sector audit partnerships. She has experience of working across all levels of local government as well as auditing the police, fire, NHS partnerships and education establishments. Naomi delivers events to new auditors, sharing her experiences in internal audit.

Speaker - Diana Melville, Governance Advisor, Better Governance Forum (BGF)

Diana is lead advisor for the Better Governance Forum and is CIPFA’s representative on the Internal Audit Standards Advisory Board. She is a CIPFA-qualified accountant and a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. Prior to joining the institute in 2008 she was head of internal audit at Salisbury Council, and held other audit roles in local government and at the National Audit Office. She is part of the CIPFA working group that developed the Good Governance Framework for Local Government (2016) and supports other CIPFA policy initiatives and publications on governance, internal audit and counter fraud.
