This is an introduction to Collection Fund accounting in England, a technically complex area of local authority accounting that causes issues for experienced and new practitioners alike. After a short overview of the statutory framework for Collection Fund accounting, the day will explore the constituent elements of the Council Tax and Business rates control accounts, the calculation of Collection Fund surpluses and deficits, presentation of the entries in the accounting statements and the implications of the Collection Fund for the Council’s general Fund.

Who should attend?

The programme is aimed primarily at local authority accountants who are new to Collection Fund accounting, or who would like to refresh their knowledge in this ever-changing technical area of local authority accounting.
