About this event

The sessions will aim to help high earners understand the Annual Allowance (AA) and the Lifetime Allowance (LTA) within the UK Pensions Tax regime, how historic annual allowance charges are affected, what needs done and by when and the impact on the lifetime allowance.

These webinars will take place over two half days. Delegates are asked to book and attend  each session.

Who should attend?

Anyone within the Police Forces who is looking to learn about the UK Pensions tax regime, specifically the Annual Allowance and Lifetime Allowance, including officers who are directly impacted and those who support them.

How will I benefit from attending?

In session 3 you will gain a sound understanding of how the UK Pensions tax regime works, focussing on the annual allowance (AA) and lifetime allowance (LTA), how tax charges are arrived at and the options available to pay for these charges.

Session 3 - 30 April 2024

  • Provide detailed information about the AA and the LTA along with case studies.
  • Explain the mechanics of how the scheme pays option could be used to meet any tax charges in practice.
  • Explain the protection that has been made available by HMRC in relation to the LTA reduction and corresponding conditions and deadlines.
  • Highlight the key changes from the March 2023 budget that impact the Annual Allowance and Lifetime Allowance.
  • Next steps – who to contact for more information, where to go for advice, touch on implications of the McCloud Ruling.

Speaker - Colin Dobbie

Colin recently joined Isio in July 2022. Based in Glasgow, Colin qualified as an actuary in 2016 and has 14 years’ experience working on Public Sector Pension Schemes namely the Local Government Pension Scheme, the Police Pension Schemes and the Firefighter Pension Schemes. As well as providing strategic funding advice for Local Government Pension Funds, Colin also has extensive experience of performing valuations for the Police and Firefighters’ Pension Schemes and producing yearly accounting reports including advice on the impact of the McCloud ruling for various Police and Fire Authorities. Previously Colin has worked with the Local Government Association, the Firefighters’ Pensions (England) Scheme Advisory Board and the Firefighters’ Pension Scheme Advisory Board for Wales in producing a series of case study illustrations alongside answering some frequently asked questions around the pension schemes and the McCloud remedy. As part of the dedicated McCloud Remedy team Colin is heavily involved with various projects providing advice and clarity to schemes, employers and members and will be delivering training sessions as part of the AFEP training programme.
