In October 2018, Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police agreed to end their shared services arrangements that had been in place since the two forces established a strategic alliance in 2012. Decoupling the partnership created a wide range of complex challenges. Police Scotland and the Scottish Police Authority were created in April 2013 as a single national police service, merging  eight regional Scottish police forces. Following its creation, they faced an extremely challenging period of adjustment, with the Auditor General reporting extensively on finances and performance.
