The programme for this CBRS Revenues series covered the interest to local authority revenues practitioners. These included the rates avoidance, business rates retention, looked at the option available for enforcement and went through the usual roundup of the latest topical news.

Session 1 – In the current economic climate it is more important than ever to ensure that income is maximised, However, there are those who seek to avoid paying what is due. This session looked at the difference between evasion and avoidance, some of the schemes being used.

Session 2 – Local government funding continues to be cut and with 100% rates retention currently off the table this session looked at the latest position, compared to 2012/13 just before 50% retention being launched and what is on the horizon.

Session 3 – Maximising collection is the main aim of Revenues teams across the country. This session looked at the options available for enforcement.

Session 4 – An update on topical issues revenues practitioners should be aware of. Including changes to legislation and update on case law and tribunal decisions.

This event was appropriate for local authority revenue managers and staff.
