Coronavirus Act - towards online authority meetings

The Coronavirus Act has now received Royal Assent. It provides additional powers and freedoms to enable public bodies to respond most effectively to the coronavirus pandemic.

One amendment to the original Bill was to provide powers to issue regulations amending legislation on local authority meetings. This should lead to the ability of local authority bodies to hold committee meetings online, allowing decisions to be made effectively and legally.

Further details of the proposals are in the attached briefing.

Regulations have now been issued to allow authorities to implement the Act.  The briefing on the Act explains the key points in the regulations.
