About the programme

The CIPFA Accredited Counter Fraud Technician (ACFTech) is a comprehensive introduction to counter fraud. It also provides a solid grounding for those who wish to go on and study the CIPFA Accredited Counter Fraud Specialist (ACFS) qualification.

What will I learn?

The course examines the impact of fraud in the UK, and includes an overview of the civil and criminal justice systems. It focuses on fraud awareness, how to gather evidence and how to obtain information without prejudicing any later investigation. It looks at:

  • the civil and criminal justice systems
  • the Fraud Act 2006 and other relevant acquisitive crime legislation
  • the UK Bribery Act 2010
  • types of evidence, elementary rules of evidence, maintaining probity and exhibits handling
  • human rights legislation and the impact on investigations
  • compliance with procedural legislation including data protection, whistleblowing and disclosure of investigative material
  • witness and suspect interviews and obtaining statements
  • fundamentals of managing an investigation

Who is the course aimed at?

This qualification is for counter fraud technicians or analysts and for anyone in a position to spot fraud at an early stage. It is also ideal for those considering a career in counter fraud.

Duration

You will be required to commit to 100 hours of learning, completed via:

  • three days of pre-course, self-directed learning
  • five consecutive days of classroom learning
  • a post-course assignment in your own time, following the classroom learning

Assessment and accreditation

You will be assessed by way of a short written test at the end of the five days and a written post-course assignment.
