Ben Powell, Lead Partner, Local Government Tax team, Deloitte | LinkedIn Profile
Ben is the Lead Partner for Deloitte’s Local Government Tax team, providing advice primarily on VAT but also other taxes such as NNDR, employment taxes and corporation tax. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and has over 15 years’ experience advising public sector organisations and a variety of private sector clients. Ben and his team provide advice on structuring, refund claims and compliance issues and have added value to numerous local authorities by reducing indirect tax costs and maximising cashflow through careful planning.

Tom Smith, Director, Global Employer Services (GES), Deloitte
Tom is a director in the UK-based GES team. He leads their offering to the public sector across the UK (including the NHS, central government, local government, housing, charities and education). He has over 20 years of experience providing tax advice. For the last 13 of these he specialised in providing employment tax advice to private and public sector clients. He has experience of assisting clients with all areas of employment tax but most notably employment status, CIS, HMRC enquiries, reviewing existing processes and policies to make them more robust, expenses and termination payments.

Sadik Karim, Associate Director, Indirect Tax, Deloitte
Sadik is an Associate Director in Deloitte’s Indirect Tax team with over nine years of experience in tax and is a member of Deloitte’s Government and Public Services tax practice. Sadik was previously a Customer Compliance Manager in HMRC’s Public Bodies Group, where he led on tax investigations across Central Government, Local Government and Not for Profit bodies. This covered areas such as input tax recovery, the VAT liability of income streams, the use of commercial subsidiary companies and VAT groups, and partial exemption methods.
