posted on 27 August 2020, updated on 01 January 0001

The House of Commons has published a briefing paper in relation to the Council Tax Reduction Scheme, primarily relating to England.

The briefing paper provides an update in relation to the introduction of local Council Tax Reduction Schemes and the abolition of Council Tax Benefit.

The paper also incorporates a section relating to the COVID-19 pandemic and its implications for those on low incomes. In March 2020, the UK government announced £500m of additional funding to local authorities to provide support, including via Council Tax relief, in 2020/21. The government intends councils to use the funding to provide further discretionary support.
