Energy price rises and the bills rebate research released

posted on 17 February 2022, updated on 17 February 2022

The price of energy has increased significantly since summer 2021, both in the UK and globally. The House of Commons have released a briefing paper summarising government support packages following news of a 54% rise in the cap on gas and electricity, and the reaction to them. It also answers frequently asked questions about support available to help customers with energy bills.

The publication complements the recently published council tax information letters:

  • 3/2022 Council Tax information letter, 15 February 2022
4/2022 Council Tax information letter, 15 February 2022
S.I. 2022 No.127, The Council Tax (Demand Notices and Reduction Schemes) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2022

These set out further information on the council tax energy rebate announced on 3 February as well as the legislative changes to demand notices and local council tax support schemes for 2022-23.
