posted on 17 April 2020, updated on 17 April 2020

HMRC has issued information for NHS trusts and local authorities who are supervising volunteers who've signed up to support people affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19).

If you’re a local authority or NHS trust that has called on volunteers to undertake tasks, they must not be:

  • employed under a contract for work
  • added to any payroll.
For further information, contact the HMRC dedicated helpline, which is available to support anyone affected by the coronavirus.

Webchat is available Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 17:00 (excluding UK bank holidays).
