The House of Commons has recently published two briefing papers; one regarding empty property council tax legislation and the other an updated list of council tax frequently asked questions.

Council Tax - Empty Properties explains how council tax is applied to empty properties in England, Scotland and Wales, including the 'empty homes premium'.

Council Tax FAQs provides a general introduction to council tax, a tax levied on domestic properties in England, Scotland and Wales. It explains what council tax is, who has to pay it, how council tax is calculated and set, and whether any exemptions or discounts may be available.

Webchat is available Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 17:00 (excluding UK bank holidays).
