VAT refunds for museums extended in Budget

posted on 21 March 2016, updated on 21 March 2016

Museum VAT refund eligibility, previously only available to national and university museums and galleries, is now open to any museums or galleries that offer free entry without prior appointment and are open to the general public for at least 30 hours per week. Announced in the Budget 2016, this will allow eligible museums to claim back VAT on most goods and services purchased to provide free admission to collections.

The 'sugar tax', which comes into force in 2018, will double the primary PE and sport premium to £320 million a year.

Up to 25% of secondary schools will be able to opt in to a longer school day from September 2017, so that they can offer a wider range of activities for pupils, including sports and PE. Read the detailed 2016 Budget on GOV.UK.
